Third Eye Leadership Bookmark

Third Eye Leadership provides consulting services for companies. A recent book release, in which they contributed, prompted a trip to a leadership conference. Of course, attendees expect to receive goodies. What better accompaniment to a book release than a bookmark showcasing the sections you contributed?

Utilizing Third Eye Leadership’s existing branding, I designed this bookmark.

Going…Going…Gone. Poster

Going, Going, Gone. performance posterI’ve been working a lot on posters for live performances lately. This one came from a local writing duo with the idea for a play based on a live auction.

So the owner of an auction house has passed away, leaving his two children to clean out the remaining junk. In order to offset some of the funeral costs they decide to hold one last auction, and you, the audience, have come just in time to bid on some “wonderful” items. Each audience member receives some fake money to bid when they enter, but they may leave with some real merchandise! Of course, the items are mostly junk found at the local Goodwill outlet warehouse, but it’s fun.

The result of the request for a poster is shown below. Also included in the final package were the event program and promo flyers based on this design.

The Keeper of the House Poster

Keeper of the House performance posterWritten by a local playwright, The Keeper of the House is a story of a conniving woman and her plan to “eliminate” her estranged uncle to gain ownership of his home for money. Sending her son, dressed as a college co-ed, to infiltrate the house and perform the deed, the mystery unfolds.

The playwright approached me with a script and a request to design a promotional poster. After reading the story I felt the imagery depicted here captured the essence of the story without giving away too much.

The silhouette of the woman represents the son (notice the slightly masculine hand) dressed as a girl holding a bottle of poison, the chosen form of weapon. Of course, there is the old man in the background. I chose shadowy figures to give it the feel of a mystery, as well as to showcase the bottle with a pop of color. The background pattern is reminiscent of vintage wallpaper to represent the aging house.

ETS Tan Product Catalog

User Manual

Straight out of college I was hired as a Technical Writer. That means I wrote technical things in a non-technical way, or at least as non-technical as I could. My primary purpose, even beyond creating drawings and manuals, was to communicate to an audience. I had to connect with whoever was going to pick up my creation and, very quickly, establish what this document was about and who should be using it.

This particular project was very complicated. I made the decision to split the assembly and usage portions, which I hadn’t done previously. Our intention was to have installers assemble the unit. Then, of course, the owner would have to operate it. These are two very different audiences.

To complicate things even further, this unit was going to Europe, and had to be translated to nine different languages; English, Dutch, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese. This manual explains how the unit works from an operator standpoint.

This assembly manual had to be simple enough to follow, but since it was going to be used by professional installers, I could speak in technical terms. See it here

Retractable Banners

Here is a banner I made for a trade show. I really like these as signage because they are 7 feet tall when open, but slip into the base like a window shade when not in use. Pop it into the case and throw it over your shoulder for ultimate portability.

We produced a number of these for trade shows because they were cost effective and really stood out.

Perfect Sun UV Flyers

Perfect Sun UV is a line of pool cleaners that work by running pool water through a tube with a UV-C lamp inside. The UV-C lamp eliminates any organic organisms and compounds in the water as it passes through, making the water completely sterile. The unit works in tandem with the standard pool filter, which removes solid debris like leaves and dirt. UV-C pool filters are an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to chlorine or bromine.

I worked with the sales team on an entire package to support this product line, from sales flyers to order sheets to business cards. In the end, I had created around 20 documents so they could travel around to pool and spa dealers across the country to sell Perfect Sun UV-C pool cleaners. Here are just a few pieces.
